US diplomats get discount at Russia army store
(3 Aug 2017) A shop in Moscow just across the street from the US embassy is offering discounts to American diplomats and embassy staff who are leaving the country.
The Army of Russia shop sells army themed toys and clothes, including t-shirts depicting President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
US diplomats, who are leaving Russia after Putin ordered a cut in US embassy staff, can receive a 20 percent discount on all merchandise.
"We think this is quite a good possibility for diplomats to pick out a really good gift for their loved ones, that they cannot find anywhere else", said Fyodor Kovshinov, Director of Expansion for Army of Russia.
Russia on Friday ordered the US Embassy and three US consulates in Russia to drastically cut its personnel.
President Vladimir Putin said on Sunday that means 755 staff members have to go.
