The election of the century has been held in Turkey, with a second round having taken place for the first time in a hundred years. Given the (real!) 90% turnout, the difference between the number of votes was minimal, which means that the people of Turkey were essentially split 50-50. It seemed that mass protests were inevitable, some even predicted a civil war in Turkey. Yet the opposition accepted its defeat, and everything appeared to have gone without a hitch. Why?
