A couple of years ago, Jeep unveiled the Wagoneer, a hulking, full-size, body-on-frame SUV built off a Ram pickup truck chassis. Wagoneer was to be the luxury sub-brand of Jeep, with more focus on the luxury than the Jeepness, and so a smaller, just-as-expensive, all-electric Wagoneer was readied: the 2024 Wagoneer S, which has now gone on sale across the country and is arriving in dealerships right now.
The Launch Edition is the first out of the gate, a 600-horsepower version that can sprint to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds using a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup and that’s rated to go 303 miles on a charge. It will cost an eye-watering $72,000, but fear not: The platform this smaller Wagoneer sits on is shared with other vehicles like the Dodge Charger, which will also come with an internal combustion engine option. Jeep assures us that less expensive, more mainstream trims are on the way, but for now, the flagship is getting all the attention — and it deserves to.
Cars.com Detroit Bureau Chief Aaron Bragman recently got to drive the new Jeep Wagoneer S around the windy, dusty country surrounding San Diego to experience just what the first-ever all-electric Jeep SUV to be sold in the U.S. is like, and he came away pretty impressed.
