Short lecture on linear combination of atomic orbitals
In homonuclear diatomic molecules, the 1s, 2s, and 2pz orbitals combine to form sigma_g bonding and sigma_u^star anti-bonding molecular orbitals. The 2px and 2py combine to form pi_u bonding and pi_g^star anti-bonding orbitals.
