Sydney-based crypto platform Immutable has soared to a $3.5 billion valuation after closing a $280 million funding round, led by Singaporean sovereign fund Temasek, with money from gaming star Animoca Brands and Chinese tech and video gaming giant Tencent.
The funding round comes just six months after Immutable raised $82 million and also includes investments from local venture capital firms AirTree Ventures and King River Capital, which both have dedicated web3 investment funds.
Immutable is shaping as the most fancied Australian operator in the web3 space, which is often characterized by users owning and controlling their data.
It is the developer and publisher of Gods Unchained and Guild of Guardians, two non-fungible token (NFT) based video games that allow players to own and trade the assets within the games. However, its most valuable arm is Immutable X, which builds fast NFT marketplaces for companies including TikTok, GameStop, Illuvium and Ember Sword.
The series C raise comes after a $100 million deal Immutable struck with US-based video game retailer GameStop in February.
