At the age of 4, Kabir Taunk was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) which is a type of cancer in which the bone marrow makes too many immature lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell. When Kabir’s cytogenetics were run a week after diagnosis, they discovered he carried a high-risk version of ALL with the Philadelphia chromosome. Over the course of two years of chemotherapy treatments, Kabir required between 25-30 blood transfusions to sustain him.
