Let me start by saying I don't really care about your expert guitar restoration tips.
These things were covered in black soot, there was no way to handle them and the soot etches into them like acid and needs to be removed asap. None of these guitars will ever be played again or most were never played, so the electronics are not an issue. They are simply wall art and collectables that are all considered an absolute loss. I am simply cleaning them so they can be handled. From there, we can replace certain hardware if needed.
As for the electronics, the pickups have ll been melted, as is all the plastic parts, knobs, guards, etc.
The chrome was tarnished and burned off the tuners.
The inlays are all discolored from the heat, the necks are warped from the heat as the truss rods are all torqued and bent from the heat. Considering, all the nail-heads in the sheet rock burned holes through the drywall. It was very hot in this hallway and melted all the photo frames at other plastic items. Basically, all this stuff was completely fucked. So rinsing it off isn't going to hurt it.
SO for the arm-chair luthiers, give it a rest. Thanks.
