A small incision will be made near the top of the tooth. Once the infected pulp has been exposed, it will be carefully removed using special tools known as files. The canals in the tooth will be thoroughly cleaned. A topical antibiotic will be applied to the area following the pulp removal to ensure that the infection has been removed completely and to prevent reinfection. The tooth will be filled and sealed with gutta-percha, a paste and rubber-like material, after the canals have been cleaned and sanitized.
