On our 2nd day in the big island, we went to go birding at Palila discovery trail, home of some of the rare endangered native species: Naio, Mamane, and the Palila bird. We unfortunately didn't see or hear the Palila, which is disheartening and just proof of how quickly our native forest birds are at the brink of extinction.
I encourage you to check out birdsnotmosquitos to learn more about our hawaii native forest bird issue and also see what this org is doing to help save the manu.

Hawaii is the endangered species capital of the world and I hope you get to learn and just enjoy our native species most recently our native honeycreepers before they no longer exist.
