In this video we’ll cover what backlighting is, and how we can use this technique to create some nice effects for our portrait photography.
Backlighting refers to a lighting technique where a light source is positioned behind (or to the rear of) the subject, facing toward the camera. In portrait photography, this can be one of the most powerful tools in your lighting arsenal. By placing the light behind your subject, you create a highlight that outlines their hair or contours, making them stand out against the background. It also adds a sense of depth and dimension to your image, making it feel more dynamic and engaging.
