The Viscosity of Cationic Surfactants in the Absence and Presence of Methanol at Different Temperatures

This chapter describes the brief introduction of the micellization of two cationic surfactants viz. dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB) and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB). Effect of methanol on micellization is elucidated by measuring the viscosity of surfactants in aqueous and 0.10, 0.20, 0.30 and 0.40 volume fractions of methanol in water at 298.15, 308.15, 318.15 and 323.25 K. Solute-solvent interaction is clarified based on the effect of added methanol on values of viscosity B coefficients of surfactant solutions in different mixed solvent media of methanol-water at abovementioned temperatures.
