We are going to use Groove Agent which comes with Cubase, to split up each bass drum, snare drum, and hi-hat hit. Then we import that into an EZ Drummer Channel in Cubase. We edit within Cubase by dragging each note into the Bass drum, snare drum, and hi-hat lanes. It sounds laborious but it’s only for 1-2 bars. Then we use the power of the EZ Drummer 3 database to find the closest grooves as played by pro drummers. Trust me, this is a better solution than some watered-down facsimile of the original drum beat. Even expensive external tools will not capture the nuances that you’ll get with a pro-played MIDI loop. Just have a large database of them and you’ll always find something close if not exact.
