In the 2000s, 360 deals became more popular as record labels were looking for ways to make money after CD sales declined significantly. The band Paramore as well as the Pussycat Dolls were some of the first artists to be offered an official 360 deal. Later, music promoters also wanted a piece of the pie, and so acts like Jay-Z, U2, and Madonna signed 360 Deals with Live Nation. They also quickly became the norm in hip-hop, with artists like J Cole, the Migos, Lupe Fiasco, Waka Flaka, Wiz Kahlifa, and the Migos signing 360 deals. In some cases like J Cole, they left the deal relatively unscathed. The latter artists expressed feeling taken adantage of and cheated by their labels. Some artists, like Meg Thee Stallion and Offset are still in legal battles that stem from the 360 deals signed with their respective labels. In the 2020s, now that artists can make a fine for themselves outside of their labels, less and less artists are willing to sign 360 deals. Ice Spice is an example of an recent big name artist who never signed a 360 deal, and it'll probably serve her well in the future.
