How does email work?
A great way to understand how multiple protocols work together to power the internet is to examine a common and popular internet service: email. Sending and receiving email requires multiple protocols, including protocols used by mail servers to exchange email (SMTP) and between mail clients and servers to retrieve and send email (IMAP, POP).
