Limestone and sandstone are the two most popular natural paving options on the Irish market. They’re the most considered options when it comes to starting a new driveway, garden, or patio project.
In this new video, our Paddy provides a few tips for maintaining your current or future paving slabs.
LIMESTONE and SANDSTONE PAVING SLABS
Both limestone and sandstone are members of the sedimentary rock group. Sedimentary rock is formed from materials that have settled at the bottom of a body of water or been deposited in a desert environment and have then been compressed over millions of years, creating a layered stone. The sediment comes from eroded rocks carried there by rivers.
Weather conditions in Ireland are notoriously diverse. Luckily, both limestone and sandstone tend to absorb minimal amounts of water, meaning they are ideal for all outdoor spaces.
TEXTURE
When it comes to TEXTURE, Limestone and Sandstone paving slabs are quite different. Limestone slab tends to be flatter and smoother, with less ridges in its finish. Consequently, this even finish means it’s ideal for driveways and also many indoor purposes too. Limestone’s natural characteristics give it an orange-peel texture, and some options boast a natural split surface texture too.
Sandstone slab on the other hand is slightly more uneven, with a rippled texture. With a sawn finish, it’s a more contemporary option compared to limestone.
Our sandstone paving slabs are ethically sourced in India and we have a broad selection of different products including Camel Dust sandstone slabs, Mint Sandstone paving slabs and Kandla Grey sandstone paving slabs.
SIZES
Our limestone finishes are available in four different colours and three sizes. This hard-wearing material comes in a fantastic mix of colours including; Black Limestone Paving, Kota Green, Kota Grey, Kilkenny Blue (only available in 600×300), and Kota Yellow. The available sizes are 600×300, 600×600, and 600x900mm, we can supply these materials in single sizes or any size combination to make up a pattern.
