DirectX 12 Ultimate (DX12_2) brings hardware based ray tracing, variable rate shading and Mesh Shaders support to both PC and Xbox series X|S. Mesh Shaders totally rewrite the rules of the geometry pipeline that we've seen up until now, and will the potential to revolutionize detail and graphics performance in modern games.
while Direct X 12 bakes Mesh Shader support right in, you can also run Mesh Shaders using Vulkan and Open GL too, assuming you've the right extensions. In this video we'll explain what Mesh Shaders are, how they work and differ from traditional geometry pipeline and also provide some insight into performance.

As I have previously leaked, Mesh Shaders are currently not being used in either PC or Xbox Series X games, but these titles will be coming this year. Mesh Shaders for Xbox will be a critical part of AAA developers tool kit, and could offer incredible performance and levels of details to developers willing to tap into them.
Mesh Shaders are currently supported in RDNA 2 class GPUs, Nvidia's RTX 20 and RTX 30, and Intel's upcoming XE line of graphics cards.
