The Census of 1921 is the last we will see in our lifetimes
1931 was lost in a fire and 1941 didn't happen due to the war.
Jacky Kerly exumes the stories behind the facts and figures and reveals a precious gem; a view of life in Blagdon more than a hundred years ago.
It shows the effects of the Great War and the new businesses that were beginning to thrive in the economic climate despite a looming recession in the rest of the country. With the recent railway and the construction of the lake, Blagdon was opened up to the world. This gave the residents a multitude of opportunities for work and even careers. It also attracted people in from outside the community to fill in the gaps and take advantage of the opportunities.
