The AWS Gateway Load Balancer or GLB, is a new type of Elastic Load Balancer. The GLB is used for distributing connections across third-party virtual appliances. These load balancers are often used for security purposes such as to distribute connections to Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS), and Next-Generation Firewalls.

The AWS Gateway Load Balancer also works with Auto Scaling groups so you can ensure you have enough capacity available at all times. In this AWS video tutorial, Neal explains how these load balancers work with visual diagrams to aid with learning. This video is from our new course for the AWS Certified Advanced Networking Specialty exam.
