Today we are going to Jeju Island, the smallest province in South Korea. Here we will get acquainted with amazing women - Henyo, which literally means "woman of the sea." These are professional divers who earn a living by harvesting shellfish and other inhabitants of the seabed. Today, haenyo is considered an endangered profession, therefore, the state of South Korea takes care of preserving their culture. They can hold their breath for 2 minutes and the oldest haenyo is 98 years old! Today I will try myself as haenyo and try to get shellfish. For lunch, we will try boiled octopus, and after that we will visit the village and the museum, where we will be told in detail about the life, features and traditions of haenyo!
