Growing eyes in the lab helps research into genetic eye diseases. The eye cups may also give insight into new therapies like eye transplants and stem cell therapy for eye diseases.
Dr Mariya Moosajee is a consultant ophthalmologist at Moorfields Eye Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children and a senior lecturer at the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology.
