When someone grabs you in a fight, it’s important to react quickly and efficiently. Here are some easy moves to escape from common grabs:

1. Wrist Grab Escape
Technique: Rotate your wrist toward the weak spot between the attacker’s thumb and fingers, then pull your arm away sharply. The thumb is the weakest point of the grip.
Alternative: Step forward while pulling your arm back to create more force, potentially breaking their grip.
2. Clothing Grab (Collar or Shirt)
Technique: Use both hands to grab the attacker’s wrist. Simultaneously, twist your body to the side and push their arm down and away. This can unbalance them and loosen their grip.
Alternative: Use a knee strike to their groin or a quick elbow to their face to create an opening for escape.
3. Bear Hug from Behind (Arms Free)
Technique: Drop your weight by bending your knees, making it harder for them to lift you. Immediately follow with a headbutt backward, stomp on their foot, or an elbow strike to their ribs.
Alternative: Reach down to grab one of their fingers, then pull and twist sharply to break their grip.
4. Bear Hug from the Front (Arms Trapped)
Technique: Lower your center of gravity by bending your knees and pushing your hips back. This gives you space to drive your head forward into their face, stomp on their foot, or use a knee strike to their groin.
Alternative: Use small, sharp movements with your hands to push into their throat or face, creating enough discomfort to loosen their grip.
5. Chokehold
Technique: If someone grabs your throat, tuck your chin down to protect your windpipe. Use both hands to grab their wrist and pull it down while stepping back or to the side. This will give you leverage to break the hold.
Alternative: Use your free hand to strike their groin, kick their knee, or gouge their eyes, creating an opportunity to escape.
6. Hair Grab
Technique: Hold the attacker’s wrist with both hands to stabilize their grip, then step forward to create momentum. Use your body weight to push into them and drive them off balance. You can follow up with strikes to vulnerable areas like the groin, throat, or eyes.
7. Single Arm Shoulder Grab
Technique: Rotate your body sharply in the direction of the grabbed shoulder while bringing your opposite arm up in a circular motion to break the grip. You can also trap their grabbing hand and use a joint lock to control their arm.
General Tips:
Stay Calm: React quickly but stay as calm as possible to think clearly and execute your moves effectively.
Be Direct: Aim for quick, effective strikes to vulnerable areas like the eyes, throat, groin, or knees.
Use Leverage: Use your body weight and the attacker’s momentum to your advantage rather than relying solely on strength.
These techniques are simple but can be very effective in a real-life situation. Practicing these moves can help ensure you’re ready to use them if needed.
