Make Irrigreen Better With One Simple Modification ~ ICV Master Valve
Irrigreen is a great product but there is one thing the system is missing out of the box. This week I decided to upgrade my systems with one basic product I was able to buy at my local hardware store.
I bought and installed a master valve and connected it to my Irrigreen control box. It takes the pressure off the system when it is not actively running. The purpose of it is to prevent leaks in highly pressurized pipes and increase the longevity of the sprinkler heads and valves.
The part I installed was a commercial-grade Hunter ICV Valve that ran me around $150. There are alternative valves that can be purchased for less and for more money depending on quality.

Irrigreen doesn't require this valve on it's system nor does it clearly encourage owners to instal this failsafe near the water source but their control box and app does allow for the use of such valve and I will forever encourage all Irrigreen owners and prospective owners of the system to buy this optional piece of equipment.
I do think Irrigreen is worth installing, you just have to do it right. No cutting corners. Here is their yard quote tool to see how many heads you might need.

No matter what you'll need a controller and at least one sprinkler head. The master valve however has to be purchased separately at a local hardware store or online.
And for those of you who already have an Irrigreen system installed without this master valve, I still think it's worth installing it anyway, even if you have to add it to an existing in-ground pipe. Without it, any leak can quickly balloon into a major leak potentially wasting over 10 gallons of water every minute.
In my own yard I have experienced three different leaks where pipes separated from the irrigation head simply because of the always-on-full-blast pressure.
