Do you know complex our complement system is? Check out "The Complement System Song"
This song goes over the entire process from the complement system being made up of proteins that are mostly produced in the liver to helping antibodies and phagocytic cells remove microbes and damaged cells from the body. This song has it all! Don't forget to sing along :)

CHORUS:
Do you know about the Complement System
These proteins in the blood are on the scene
From C1 to 9, in defense they align
A cascade of events like a machine

VERSE 1:
When the antibodies recognize the pathogen
C1 is activated in this race
C2 and 4 then split, and their parts take their place
To form C3 converts
C3 convertase breaks down C3 into two parts
Into C3a and C3b
C3a attracts, C3b attacks
By tagging for damage as you’ll see

VERSE 2:
C3a is like a chemical attractant
That brings in the phagocytes
The phagocytes then eat the germs they meet
Trying to make everything alright
When C3b attaches to the pathogen
It’s tagging it for destruction
But that’s not all it’ll do, it makes C5 split in two
C5a and b will do do what they do

VERSE 3:
C5b will join with C6 through 9
To form the membrane attack complex
It then sticks to the membrane of the pathogen
And I can’t wait to tell you what comes next
This makes a hole in the membrane
That allows for water to rush in
The pathogen breaks a part, it’s what we wanted from the start
Thanks to the complement system

BRIDGE
But there’s an alternate pathway that skips steps and starts with C-3
It binds directly to the pathogen and interacts with factors P, B, and D
C3 then splits into C3a and b and the rest continues as we like to see
And that was the complement system, that helps defend you and me.
