How to setup a super smooth livestream at a high frame rate 120 fps on Twitch using OBS Studio, why it works, how it works and slow motion camera comparisons on 60hz and 120hz monitors.
The reason this works is because Twitch, at the “Source” setting does not touch your video at all, and passes what you encode from OBS directly to the viewer. If your viewers are using anything other than the “Source” setting they will get the 120fps stream transcoded down to 60fps.
If you are in doubt that its working, hit the Video Stats tab to make sure its showing 120 frames per second. You can also slow your VOD down to half speed which should still show very smooth video.
