Unreal Engine Brings Warhammer's Defiled Lands To Life

Back in 2019, I was thinking about what it would be like to have a Warhammer video game that was an action RPG and played kinda like The Witcher. I was having fun with Warcry on my tabletop at the time and had just finished painting my Defiled Ruins set. I decided to use that set as "concept art" to translate that to the digital world. With a combination of Maya, ZBrush, and Substance Painter, I recreated some of the major pieces from that set, as well as some additional models to help fill out the world. I constructed the scene in Unreal Engine. But not only did I want it to be pretty, I wanted it to be performant as well! Just like if it were a game. So I made it as a game environment and optimized it for playability.
What you see as a result is just the environment art side of it. It was also created in Unreal Engine 4, so it doesn't even take advantage of any Unreal Engine 5 features like Nanite or Lumen. Even though I made this in 2019, we've still yet to see a true video game that approaches the Warhammer universes from a true narrative RPG perspective. If I had the funding and permission, of course I'd kick it off myself! But alas, that is not the case. Here's hoping this at least serves as inspiration for Games Workshop to consider the idea of such a game.
