How did this Short get almost 2 Million Views in 60 days? Well, it’s thanks to just one thing.
I did this 5 more times, and got another 6 million views… and the channel only had 5000 Subs at the time..
At first, I thought it was all about my intro, asking a question or posing a challenge kept viewers watching till the end, higher retention equals more views after all.
and I was right… but also wrong… Look at these two shorts
Both run the same concept, Guess The Pokemon Or Release A Rare Pokemon, they’re edited the same, and target the same audience…but one has 180,000 Views, the other only 3000
Short A has 95% retention, and Short B has 86% retention
So Short A should have 180,000 views right? wrong… because Short A is 17 Seconds long, Short B is 45 Seconds…
The reason my shorts got millions of views was because the intro hooked the viewers to watch till the end, but they’re all 45 seconds or longer, making 86% retention more valuable, and that answers

How To Long Should A YouTube Short Be To Gew Views
The important thing is to always have a hook on your first frame so the viewers keep watching the entire YouTube Short… but that raises the question… how long should it be?
YouTube shorts should be as short as possible but not go under 30 seconds if you can avoid it. YouTube favors retention rate, however not all retention is made equal, 85% of a 14-second short is less valuable than 85% of a 55-second short.
A longer short is far easier to make someone watch entirely through once, compared to a shorter short where they need to watch it multiple times to reach the algorithm.
So, a short should be 45 - 55 seconds long, with a retention rate of 85 - 95%.
How To Structure Your Streams, TikToks, and Videos
Every single piece of content you create should follow a very simple structure, the hook, the meat, and the payoff.
The hook is the promise or reason someone sticks around, the meat being the core content, and the payoff is the value or takeaway the viewer receives.
The first example was when I planned to do a Pokemon Arceus Stream, in this stream I was going to hunt down every secret unown Pokemon on the map without a guide, and for every 15 minutes I don’t find one I have to eat a spoon of vegemite.
The hook is the fun concept of a challenge and punishment, the meat is the core content of me frantically exploring to find the Unown, and the payoff is my success of finding all the unown OR being beaten down having to eat far too much vegemite.
I want you to stop thinking about Streaming as just a Stream and instead try to think of streaming as a recording session, you engage with your chat absolutely but you need to have a bigger goal in mind that this content is going to go somewhere else, and needs to be entertaining and valuable for another audience.
The style of this video is similar to Alpha Gaming and Gaming Careers in parts. A large influence on this series has come from content creators like Wild4games and Nutty.
