i was inspired to try fleshrippers after the skoll and hati test went better than expected. and, if youre going to use fleshrippers, may as well use the wolf armor set too. despite being mountain-level armor, the wolf armor set is quite well suited to the mistlands for the following reasons:
1. full set has 50% fire res, which helps against gjall and the fire variant of the dwarf mage. keep in mind that regular armor reduces all forms of damage, but the fire res on this set helps offset the lower armor.
2. a given player will already possess this set by the time they get to mistlands naturally in the game progression. it isnt something which is gate-kept by progress within the mistlands biome itself.
3. the move speed allows both longer jumps and also walking away to kite enemies without sprinting.
the final element is the most signature feature of this set, being able to kite without sprinting. walking imposes no delay or rate penalty on stamina regen; it is the same as simply standing still. this allows you to recover stamina on demand, against almost any enemy type, as long as there is reasonable room and flatness of terrain to walk. generally in valheim, you will run out of stamina not due to the rate at which you use it or recover it, but the frequency at which you perform an action that costs stamina. every time you use stamina, you need to stop for 1 second to start regeneration. if you dont "rest" for at least a second, you will just slowly run out of stamina.
the fleshrippers are still dominant weapons, even 2 biomes up from the mountains. most weapons have a 3 hit primary combo with 1x-1x-2x damage. basically the game design "rewards" you for digging all the way to primary 3 in a continuous combo by giving you double damage on the final strike. but due to attack speed, knockback, stagger windows, multiple enemies, etc., it is often difficult to complete a 3-hit primary attack combo.
not so with the fleshrippers, because they are fast and have a short 2 hit combo, 1x-2x. you can even dry-fire the primary 1 on purpose when out of range to make sure the first hit you land is primary 2, 2x damage. i do this a few times in this gameplay. for example, if you know you only have time to land 3 hits, you can dry-fire the primary 1 so that your combo is 2x-1x-2x, instead of 1x-2x-1x.
additionally, dont sleep on the secondary attack, the kick. just like bare fists, the kick has high knockback and stagger and can be used as an opener. but since fleshrippers obviously deal so much more damage than bare fists, the stagger on the kick gets multiplied as well. it consistently staggered the 1-star seeker here, and i was glad to be able to test that even though simply outmaneuvering it also works.
you can also do a bit of parrying with these weapons, but i didnt bother trying on the mistlands-level enemies as i was pretty sure it wouldnt work. it worked on the deathsquito shown in this gameplay.
lastly, in a biome where krom and himmin afl now require 20 base stamina for a primary attack and 40 (!) for a secondary attack, it was pleasant to wail away on soldier butts for 10 stamina per attack.
i caught another seeker cheating through stagger at 12:20. this is the 4th video capturing this and i've reported it.
