Much of this video is a reaction and response to the 2020 state of AI and machine learning whitepaper published by Appen. This can be downloaded for free here: https://appen.com/whitepapers/the-sta...

Also referenced is a study at KDNuggets which took data from 2017-2019 to look at number of Indeed data science jobs by listed technology: https://www.kdnuggets.com/2019/06/dat...

They used a sample size of 374, with more than half of those people being directors, VPs, etc.; this provided a margin of error of about 5%. Most of these people came from organizations with at least 1,000 people. Some key findings were:

More than 3/4 of organizations think AI is critical to their business, but about half of organizations think they're behind. The enthusiasm is certainly there!
People are putting their money where their mouth. Based on the (small) simple sizes, the percentage that is allocating $5M for AI has doubled since last year. The real percentage is probably higher than that. That's great because that means more jobs, more competition for talent and hence higher wages!
Cloud technologies are getting adopted way more in 2020 compared to 2019. Azure appears to be the market leader.
We're seeing more and more use of Java, C, and C++. Python is still the top programming language for AI, but this tells me that people are using these languages because their speed and performance is important for deployment to production.
This is consistent with previous findings that indicated rises in Java and C/C++/C# to levels that were comparable with R.
We may be entering an era where knowing one of these languages is important for the run-of-the-mill data science job, but I'm not sure this can be said definitively quite yet.
41% of organizations report that lack of data or data management were the biggest roadblocks to AI success. Furthermore, 25% are reporting lack of technical resources/qualified people is the biggest roadblock.
Text data is the most common type used. Sensor data along with audio and video are increasing.
The current virus going around is not affecting AI much. More are saying it's ACCELERATING their strategy or projects as opposed to delaying them.

In short, 2020 remains a great year to be a data scientist or AI expert.
