Title: Whole-brain Networks and Component Cognitive Processes Underpinnings of Event Simulation.
Session: Oral Session
Speaker: Ava Momeni
Abstract: Cognition in everyday life often occurs on a protracted timescale that occurs over tens of seconds up to minutes, and is dynamic, with multiple cognitive processes coming on- and off-line as attentional focus, processing demands, and situational understanding changes. However, neuroimaging studies typically study the blood-oxygen level dependent (BOLD) correlates of discrete cognitive processes that occur over milliseconds up to a few seconds. Thus, when investigating the neural substrates of naturalistic tasks such as autobiographical simulation, the protracted nature of the task over seconds to minutes creates significant challenges in linking activation of different regions and networks to the cognitive processes engaged at different points during the task. In the present study, we report a reanalysis of data from an fMRI study of autobiographical simulation (Addis et al., 2009) with the goal of meeting this challenge for autobiographical simulation.
