Display a word count on Google Docs 2021
Do you want to find out the character count or word count in a Google document?
Or turn on a running word count to view as you are typing in Google Docs?
This Woggle Guide will provide a quick guide on how to turn on and use the word count feature in Google Docs.

Welcome to Woggle Guides.
In this guide we’ll look at how to display the word count in Google Docs.
To view the world count, click Tools and Word Count.
This can also be accessed by using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + C.
The word count shows a count of the number of pages, words and characters in the current Google document. A separate count is also shown where the count of the spaces is removed.
If you want a word for only a small portion of your document, you can do this by firstly selecting the text you want to be counted.
Then if you choose Tools and Word Count again, you’ll see that the count is now displayed showing the count of the selected text as well as the full word count for the document.
You’ll see there is also an option to “Display word count while typing”. Let’s click into that checkbox and click OK to proceed
A word counter is now shown in the bottom left that actively counts as you type.
If you click on the down arrow, you can change the focus or the count to characters or pages.
To close this word counter, just click on the downward arrow again and choose ‘Hide word count’.
