Boys Be Smile 「 Little Busters! ~Refrain~ 」 | English Metal Cover
What better way to celebrate 500 subscribers than by singing the opening to the anime that turned forming a baseball team into the most traumatic coming-of-age story imaginable.
"Little Busters" was my first (and really only) Key studio drama anime I've seen. I began watching this show back in high school, and ever since, it has really stuck with me. It's one of those shows that makes it really easy to connect with one's personal life, which unfortunately makes what happens to the characters throughout the story so much more heartbreaking—almost as if you're living through everything the main character, Riki Naoe, is experiencing. Damn you Key Studio and your great character development. It's a fantastic story and definitely worth the watch, but just be ready to cry. A lot. And I'm just talking about the first season; things get even more heart-wrenching in season two which, to add fuel to the fire, apparently chooses to go with the happy ending to the story instead of the true ending, which, let me just say, scares the hell out of me knowing that the visual novels are EVEN SADDER. Speaking of which, I know this series has a few visual novels available, and when I'm more proficient in my Japanese, I'm gonna give them a shot, even if I end up a crying, blubbering mess again lol.
Ahh "Boys Be Smile," this opening just has a certain something. On its own, it's already a pretty dramatic song, but in the context of "Little Busters" and especially the 2nd season, which uses this song as its opening, "Little Busters～Refrain～," it's an absolute heart-wrencher. I actually arranged this song WAY before I ever started my channel. It was actually in the running to be my first cover! But, the reason it took so long to get this cover out was that I wanted to have lyrics that really made an impact, and only after TONS of revisions did I settle on these lyrics. On top of that, I wanted to have vocals that were a little bit on the grittier side for when the guitars and drums came in, which is why on the lyrics "Burn.." and "They..." there's some grit to my voice that took a very long time to get right. In the end though, even if it was over 2 years in the making, I think this cover might be one of my favorites and I hope you enjoyed it!
P.s. Yes, I did almost cry at the end, lol. This anime leaves that kind of impact. Worth the watch, though!
