In this video, I discuss the US government seizure of Bitcoin from the 2016 Bitfinex hack. The Bitcoin were allegedly being laundered by a very strange couple from NYC.
The only reason that the US gov was able to seize this Bitcoin was because the private keys were being stored in a plain text file in the cloud.
Never store your Bitcoin on an exchange, or allow anyone else to hold your private keys. "Not your keys, not your coins."
This is also a good reminder that Bitcoin is pseudonymous, not anonymous. Please do not try to use Bitcoin to do anything illegal.
