One conversation I get into with people all the time at conferences is, you know, do you really think a phone number works? You really think having a memorable number or a vanity number works better than another number? Yes, I think they work. But what if I'm wrong, and they're really not better than another number, right? That can be an argument. I turn it around on people when they say, "well, what if you're wrong?" And I say, well, what if I'm right?
You're choosing all these things about your business, right? Your domain, your logo, your letterhead, your tagline. Why leave it to seven random digits? What if? I want you to, I want you to walk around all day long for the rest of your life. Saying, what if? What if I picked a number that was more memorable, that had a pattern to it, that tied into my brand? What if that made my ads more effective? What if it allowed me to be more memorable? What if it made referrals easier? What if? What if it led to a two, five, 10% increase in the amount of people that reach you? What if? And you know what, if I'm wrong, and seven random digits is just as good as a good number or a memorable number... So what? You picked a number that was cool. People talked about it, it didn't grow your business.
How many clients could you be losing? So you're spending all this money, you're getting set up, you're ordering business cards, brochures. You're setting up a website, you go to conferences, for a few hundred dollars. Why walk around for the rest of your life going, what if? What if that guy I met was right?
