French musician Erik Satie is one of the most influential late 19th - 20th century composers. His music at times sounds strange, but every time one is listening to it, he desires to hear it more and more. Satie was a predecessor of contemporary Minimal music aesthetic: he wrote many experimental compositions, invented unusual forms, harmony structures, melodies and musical pieces names. Gnossiennes are an example of this approach. All Gnossiennes were originally made for the piano, but they sound very good on the harp.
Wassily Kandinsky is one of the most important figures of the modern art. He lived at the second half of 19 - first half of 20 century. Kandinsky and Satie were born in the same year - 1866. Satie in France, Kandinsky in Russia. After revolution in Russia Kandinsky moved to Germany where he was developing the new abstract art principals.He thought in the famous Bauhaus school until the Nazis closed it, then he moved to France where he died in 1944. Satie's music is connected wonderful with the abstract expressionistic style of Kandinsky's painting.
