Chapter 7 Summary:
The Deadly Poppy Fields
In Chapter 7 of "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" by L. Frank Baum, titled "The Deadly Poppy Field," Dorothy, Toto, the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, and the Cowardly Lion continue their journey to the Emerald City. As they travel, they come across a beautiful but dangerous poppy field.

The poppies are enchanting and have a powerful scent that causes those who inhale it to fall into a deep, potentially fatal sleep. Dorothy, Toto, and the Cowardly Lion are particularly affected by the poppies' scent. Dorothy and Toto fall asleep in the field, and the Cowardly Lion, despite his size and strength, also succumbs to the soporific flowers.

The Scarecrow and the Tin Woodman, being unaffected by the poppies' scent, devise a plan to rescue their friends. They carry Dorothy and Toto out of the poppy field to safety, but the Cowardly Lion is too heavy to move. Fortunately, the field mice, summoned by the Queen of the Field Mice whom the Tin Woodman had saved earlier, come to their aid. They manage to build a makeshift cart and, with the help of many mice, pull the Cowardly Lion out of the field, saving him from the deadly flowers.

Once everyone is safe and awake, they continue their journey toward the Emerald City, grateful for their narrow escape from the dangerous poppy field.
