This was Day 2 of our 4 day short break to Iceland in December 2022.
We were staying in the lovely little town of Hveragerði so decided to go for a hike up into the hills to the nearby hot springs river in the Reykjadalur valley. Unless you know what you are doing, you probably wouldn't want to do that in poor winter weather, but during this trip the weather was warm (for December in Iceland!), there was no snow and the winds were very light. So this was a relatively easy walk, even for your average people like us! :)
It was a gorgeous day, and it was fantastic to watch the Sun come up during our walk. The light was just incredible with the low Winter Sun giving everything a fantastic warm glow, a bit like an all day Golden Hour! :)
We didn't actually bathe in the hot springs, but could easily have done and plenty of other people were enjoying it.
On returning to the parking area, we popped into the fairly new cafe that's been built there.(Reykjadalur Café - https://goo.gl/maps/dQprGJ9a3weAZjVRA) for some Hot Chocolate, which was absolutely lovely!
Although we did spend some time in Selfoss later and also went Northern Lights hunting, I didn't include it in this video as some viewers may be watching this for more info on hiking in Reykjadalur.
We have been visiting Iceland for the last 10 years or so, normally in December which we like as it's a quiter time there, so less busy. We like the darker days and obviously more chance of seeing the Northern Lights when the nights are longer.
This year our trip was just for 4 days due to couple of other longer holidays through the year. We decided that we wouldn't travel too far this time, but instead focus on stopping and seeing the things that we normally just drive past on the way to the more well known locations.
Iceland isn't a cheap destination, (but there again where is these days?), so for this trip and these videos we decided to focus on places to visit that were FREE (subject maybe to a small parking charge for the car park).
If you have any questions, please post in the comments and we will do our best to answer.
