Recreational Therapy at a Washington State Child Psychiatric Treatment Center
The Child Study and Treatment Center (CSTC) is the only state-operated and funded psychiatric hospital for children and youth ages 5-17 who have psychological and safety needs that cannot be met in their communities.
The CSTC annual carnival, along with other special events, are intended to provide a positive experience for youth at CSTC with family, peers, staff, and community team members – helping with their overall treatment engagement.
CSTC recreational therapy staff organize the event in coordination with nurses, therapists, and other staff. Youth play games, earn tickets for prizes, and eat bbq along with family members and their friends. It’s a highlight of the year for all. Other popular events include the annual fall Harvest Fest and the spring Fun with Fitness.
