!CAUTION! This is an advanced video for those whom feel adventurous and have a decent background and understanding of computers and system administration, or those just feeling adventurous and not afraid to brick a home router or switch... If you brick your device, you and you alone are responsible for that and you have been for warned. We here at Brownell's Tech Tips nor the team for OpenWRT will take responsibility for you bricking your device in attempt to install or use this product.

I know I called the router a switch many times... I was sick and half delirious on pain killer in my cough syrup (Prescription of Course)... Ok that was a male joke, ladies will get it as I am over reacting... LOL but I was sick and did, like an idiot call my old router a SWITCH several times and for that I should be slapped... BUT in my defense, technically the 4 ports are a built in switch to the router so I was half right... HA!

In this video, I will give you a brief overview and explain why upgrading your home end Router and/or switch device to OpenWRT is worth it and the advantage it gives you. The link below has a vast amount of documentation and instructions on how to perform the upgrade for your device as well as identifying the download for your device. Keep in mind using the non-OEM firmware for your device can, will, and does void any warranty and can potentially BRICK your device which means it will render it completely unusable, you have been warned.

In my experience using this software/firmware, it has made my Router and Switch SUPER STABLE and works better than it did with OEM firmware.

OpenWRT is developed and distributed by the OpenWRTProject and that team has done a great job thus far. The OS is a linux/Unix like OS that is very slim line and used the opkg package manager. it is super easy to update when there are updates and once properly configured, is super easy to maintain... Logging doesn't kill it by over loading the memory so you can gather network logs from this router/switch software.

We are in no way shape or form associated with the OpenWRT team. This video is strictly for educational and demonstration purposes and also because we highly recommend the upgrade from the OEM firmware to OpenWRT form most not all, home grade routers and switches as it works great... (Especially if instructions are followed to a T!)
