How to Use Width tools on illustrator
The Width tool lets you create variable-width strokes, and create stroke profiles so you can apply styles consistently.
Click the Width tool or press Shift + W to select it.
Drag an anchor point to expand or contract the stroke.
To make pointed ends, drag the points at the ends of the stroke.
The Width Point allows you to adjust the thickness of the path by clicking it and dragging it towards the inside or outside in order to create a thinner or thicker stroke. You can add as many Width Points as you need, and you can also remove them by selecting them using the Width Tool and then pressing Delete.
What is the difference between an art brush and a pattern brush?
For art brush you can set the stroke width along with flipping, colorization, and overlapping options. For pattern brush, you can set the scaling options along with flipping, fitting, and colorization options

Using the Line Segment Tool
With the line selected, go to the Tool Bar and choose the Width Tool .
Hover over a point in the selected line where you want the stroke to be wider, then click, hold and drag away from the path.
