Isonvihan eli Suomen alueen raakalaismaisen venäläismiehityksen aikaan Keuruun kirkkoherran pojat kunnostautuivat sissitoiminnassa. Nämä Herpmanin veljekset toimivat miehitysjoukkojen pakkoveroa kerääviä osastoja vastaan vuosina 1714 ja 1715. Herpmannien poikien taisteluista ja taktiikoista syntyi legendoja joista yksi on Ketveleen kannaksen taistelu kesältä 1714.
