In a 2018 paper, this question was put to the test. Researchers had one group of subjects perform the bicep curl while really focusing on squeezing their biceps and feeling the muscle work. The other group was simply instructed to lift the weight. After 8 weeks of this, the group that focused on feeling the biceps working experienced almost double the biceps gains!
To apply this method to potentially speed up your bicep gains, first realize that proper form is what will enable you to activate the right muscles in the first place. But to further boost activation, try to focus on feeling your biceps contracting and think about pulling the bar or dumbbell into your body rather than just lifting the weight up.
