U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Wednesday (September 18) stated that the U.S. had no prior knowledge of an attack which targeted pagers used by Lebanon's Hezbollah a day earlier.
Blinken, visiting Cairo for talks with the President and Foreign Minister, told reporters that the U.S. is still gathering the facts on what happened.
At least nine people were killed and nearly 3,000 others were wounded after the Hezbollah-used communication devices exploded across Lebanon, with the group promising to retaliate against Israel, who it accused of orchestrating the blasts.
Blinken also reaffirmed his commitment to a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, stating that it would be "the best chance" to tackle Gaza's humanitarian crisis and avoid spreading the conflict to other fronts.
