Dartmoor National Park is a truly unique geological feature and is partly responsible for some very unique weather not only on the moor itself but also in the surrounding area. In this video we will be looking at exactly how the climate can effect the land and in turn how the land can indeed create its own unique climate.

Dartmoor is a national park that lies on the South west peninsula of the united kingdom, Its just under 1000 square kilometres, around 40 kilometres north to south and 30 kilometres at its widest point in size which means is roughly the same size as New York. Dartmoor National Park consists of two high plateaus split by a central bowl. Whilst not mountainous Its highest points are well over 600m meters above sea level, making it the highest land in the whole of Southern England.

Despite the level of rainfall because of the height of the moor, growth of flora and fauna can be somewhat limited and hence why Dartmoor is sometimes referred to as a wet desert. The few trees on the open moor have been twisted and shaped by the wind, and only the hardiest breeds of livestock can tolerate the harsh conditions.
