Hey what is up everyone, Norman from futurestud.io University here and welcome to another video in our Android Studio Note series.
You will learn in less than five minutes a little trick to increase the productivity in every single day.
I see that a lot of developers when they want to rename a method or variable or a class they will just start selecting the thing and type something else. Obviously this will break some stuff. They will fix each occurrence manually.
A much smarter way is to use the rename shortcut which is Shift+F6 and then you will see this little inline change and the awesome thing is, it will change all calls, in this case for method, automatically. It will also be smart about it. So for example up here in this documentation I have the function name in there. So when I do, or when I click to refactor it will change it up here.
So those are something that will always go missing when you do it manually and it's really awesome to have the tool help you that the code stays consistent and that you don't get outdated documentation.
Please use a rename functionality and ideally the shortcut at Shift+F6. Now one last tip if you are not sure about the options you can always hit Shift+F6 twice. This first time will shows us little inline thing. If you hit another time it will actually give you all the options for that specific occurrence so if you go up to this class maybe and we hit it twice it will have a lot more options for the scenario. So please try it out and use it.
That's it!
Thank you for watching and if you didn't know what the rename functionality is then give this video thumbs up and subscribe for more videos.
