Aleksey Ekimyan - Soviet composer of Armenian origin, author of popular songs, Honored Art Worker of the Armenian SSR, major general of police.
Hekimyan was born in Baku in 1927.
In 1933, already in Yerevan, in addition to the ordinary school, he also began to study at the music school, where he played the violin.
With the outbreak of World War II, he dropped out of both schools and worked on the railroad.
Since 1944 he participated in the restoration of Kharkov.
In 1946, Alexey Ekimyan returned to Yerevan and went to work in the police. In 1947 he was sent to a secondary police school in Vladimir, in 1954 he passed a competition and entered the Higher School of the USSR Ministry of Internal Affairs in Moscow. During his studies, he began to participate in amateur performances of the school of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
In honor of the upcoming World Festival of Youth and Students, Hekimyan presented his first work, “Festival Waltz”, to the amateur competition. Waltz received the first prize.
In 1963, Lieutenant Colonel Ekimyan headed the criminal investigation department of the Moscow Region. In 1969 he wrote the first song "Accident".
In 1970, Alexey Ekimyan received the title of Major General of Police. He worked for 27 years in the criminal investigation department, and for one successful investigation he was awarded the Order of the Red Star.
43-year-old Ekimyan became almost the youngest general of militia in the Soviet Union. Only Yuri Churbanov, the son-in-law of Leonid Brezhnev, was younger.
In 1973, at the suggestion of Aram Khachaturian and Oscar Feltsman, Alexei Ekimian was admitted to the Union of Composers of the USSR. The membership card was personally presented to him by the first secretary of the Union, Tikhon Khrennikov.
Alexey Ekimyan had great fame in Armenia. Back in the early 1970s, the composer created several Armenian cycles - about 80 songs to the words of Armenian poets - and became a national hero in Armenia, in the same years he received the title of Honored Art Worker of Armenia.
Nani Bregvadze at first sang the song “Snowfall” without much enthusiasm - she was asked not to refuse this to the police general. Soon the song became the hallmark of the singer. No less accidentally met with Ekimyan and Vakhtang Kikabidze. The singer received a call and was told that “some Moscow general” was writing songs and wanted him to sing them. Kikabidze reluctantly agreed and came to the studio. After listening to several of the composer's songs, he was delighted with their melodiousness and recorded them the very next day.
Iosif Kobzon, who at first also did not have a great desire to perform his songs, said about Ekimyan: - He never climbed into the soul, but remained in it all the time ...
Alexey Ekimyan worked with such remarkable poets as Rasul Gamzatov, Robert Rozhdestvensky, Mikhail Tanich. Songs to his music were performed by Lyudmila Zykina, Muslim Magomayev, Anna German, Eduard Khil, Iosif Kobzon, Vakhtang Kikabidze, Nani Bregvadze, Valentina Tolkunova, Lev Leshchenko, Sofia Rotaru, vocal and instrumental ensembles "Syabry", "Gems", "Flame" , "Singing Guitars".
