To make sure we gather enough information about the musicians, the bands and the scene we are documenting, meeting diverse people somehow related to music is important. By doing so we can criss cross the stories we have been related and get closer to the bottom of them.

For the Congo Funk project we met people with various backgrounds, who lived the heydays of Kinshasa, as music lovers, journalists or producers. All of them vividly shared their knowledge around a beer or two. Listening to these musical encyclopedias was an experience we will never forget.

The experience of sharing its knowledge about past events is also a nice way to get to remember cherished moments. This feeling made the meetings even more emotional and got us to strongly believe in the process of the making of Congo Funk.

In order of appearance in the video. Molende Kwikwi, producer of Editions Molende & Mol-Mol, great producer in the 70s and 80s. Herman Bangui Bayo, manager of Les Bantous de La Capitale and also a Congolese Rumba expert who helped us with the Brazzaville musicians. Jean De La Croix Mobhe Lisuku aka Jhomos who was a band manager in the 1970s and 1980s. He played an important role with youngster rising up.

Joseph Eale Litula, music lover and writer who became a Congolese Rumba expert through his collection of information. Georges Gaye dit Siula Ma Siula, radio journalist and founder of legendary Radio Show Week-end en Bonne Compagnie in the 1980s. Sitting at the table with Célestin Mumba, a RTNC radio technician and Simon Mbaki Mazakala, a pensioned RTNC Radio division director who played the central role in introducing us to these various people.

Jeannot Ne Nzao Diop, historian and connoisseur of Groupe Minzoto Ya Zaïre and Joel Mukoma, ex singer of the band. Finally Antoinette & Tedika Kisunga aka Carte Mémoire, journalists at the RTNC, true memory cards of Congolese music.
