Many are accustomed to buying their own car, focusing on the European safety ratings EuroNCAP. But few people know that there is a similar system in China - C-NCAP. Let's see how safe Chinese cars are and should you trust the results of their crash tests?
According to the EuroNCAP protocol, only those cars that will be sold in Europe are checked. And since Chinese car brands have just begun to appear there, there are practically no European crash tests of cars from China. For example, recent Chinese Lynk & Co 01 and Nio ES8 have passed EuroNCAP and C-NCAP crash tests. The results were very good, the cars scored a maximum of five stars in both tests. Thus, it can be concluded that the Chinese security check is as strict as the European one. And this is not the only example!
The European market can rightfully be called one of the most complex in the world. In order to obtain permission here to sell their automotive products, each manufacturer must prepare many documents and must pass the Euro NCAP tests. Crossovers Nio EC8 and Link Co 01 took part in just such crash tests from the European committee. Their results seriously impressed even Western experts, because the Chinese received 5 stars each.
Chinese Car Safety 2021. The brainchild of Geely got 15 points out of 16 for frontal collisions, for side collisions - 16 out of 16. As a result, the safety of adults in the car was estimated at almost incredible 96%, children in a special seat - 87%. Pedestrian protection was the weakest point - 71%. And the security systems worked by 81%.
The Nio crossover performed slightly worse in the tests, gaining 13.3 points for frontal impacts and 12.5 points for side impacts. Protection of adults and children is estimated at 82% and 84%, respectively, and pedestrian protection at 72%. And the work of security systems turned out to be altogether at a height - 92%.
Be that as it may, both models from the Middle Kingdom were able to perform on a par with the Audi Ku4 e-tron, Subaru Outback and Toyota Mirai.
