The investigation into the RG Kar rape and murder case has intensified as the Central Bureau of Investigation escalates its efforts. The CBI has conducted raids at 15 locations, including the residence of Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of R G Kar Medical College and Hospital, in connection with a corruption probe. An FIR has been filed against Ghosh following extensive questioning for over 12 hours on the ninth consecutive day. The Calcutta High Court recently transferred the case from the Bengal government’s Special Investigation Team to the CBI. Neighbors of Sandip Ghosh have described him as an influential figure with close ties to the police and government. In addition to the raids, the CBI has conducted lie detection tests on six suspects, including Sanjay Roy, who is currently held at Presidency Jail. A team of polygraph specialists from Delhi conducted these tests. Junior doctors at RG Kar Medical College continue to protest, demanding the resignation of the Kolkata police commissioner. They have raised concerns about the renovation of the crime scene, accusing authorities of attempting to destroy evidence. They are calling for stringent punishment for the accused. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has weighed in, emphasizing that crimes against women will not be tolerated and advocating for women’s safety. The ongoing investigation and public outcry raise questions about how long it will take for justice to be served in Kolkata's Abhaya case.
