Vessels face several types of problems that arise due to different conditions at sea. These issues include weather changes, sea water impacts, navigation problems, and geographic factors. However, the biggest doubt that hangs over their ability to survive has to do with how ships survive storms.
Tropical regions experience the highest number of storms due to their strategic geography. An average of 75-85 storms occur annually in this belt.
These storms differ from each other in size, strength and behavior. While the smaller ones disappear after 24-48 hours, the larger ones can last for over a week! Therefore, heavy ship traffic through a storm area requires ships to be smart and responsive.
