THE FICTIONAL STORY OF...
In 1987, Workout, a melodic hard rock band hailing from Halifax, burst onto the scene with their explosive debut album under the legendary Monarch Records. As with everything on this channel, this is a fictional story about a fictional band—created with a lot of love for the 80s rock scene. And don’t worry, no one got hurt during these AI-generated photoshoots or recordings!

In 1987, Workout, a melodic hard rock band hailing from Halifax, burst onto the scene with their explosive debut album, released under the legendary Monarch Records. The album was a masterclass in arena-ready rock anthems, overflowing with hooks, lush harmonies, and a pristine production courtesy of renowned producer Bradley "Buzz" Turner, who had previously worked with tons of great AOR acts.

Comprised of five members in their early 30s, Workout was fronted by the charismatic vocalist Tommy Grant, whose powerful voice and commanding stage presence made him a natural star. On guitar was the blazing Jack Mitchell, whose riff-driven sound gave the band its hard edge, while Darren 'Daz' Crowley held down the groove on bass. Behind the kit was the thunderous Scott "Smash" Harris, and on keyboards, adding rich textures to their sound, was Eric LeBlanc, who also contributed to the band’s soaring backing vocals alongside the others. Together, these five musicians crafted an album that quickly captured the attention of both rock radio stations and die-hard fans of the genre.

Their self titled debut album, soared up to #28 on the Billboard Rock Chart, with hit singles like "Run for Your Life" and "Under The Ride" becoming staples on rock radio stations across the US. It seemed like Workout was on the brink of superstardom.

Throughout 1987 and 1988, Workout toured tirelessly, sharing the stage with all big AOR-names. Their high-energy live performances, filled with tight musicianship and powerful vocal harmonies, earned them a reputation as one of the best live acts of the time. They were praised in AOR fanzines and rock magazines as "the next big thing."

However, despite the strong reception and the buzz surrounding their album, Workout never quite managed to break through to the upper echelons of rock stardom. While they had the sound, the look, and the songs, a mixture of bad timing and the sheer competition in the late 80s rock scene held them back from reaching the heights of the bands they toured with.

Even so, their safe titled debut remains a cult classic among AOR and melodic rock fans, a perfect snapshot of a band on the cusp of greatness. The album’s crisp production, infectious melodies, and powerful performances continue to resonate, solidifying Workout's place in rock history as one of the era’s finest overlooked gems.
